Apple Maps is a mapping and navigation service developed by Apple Inc. It is one of several GPS-based navigation applications, offering core functions similar to Google Maps, Waze, and HERE WeGo. The provided features include turn-by-turn directions for driving, walking, cycling, and public transit, along with real-time traffic updates, 3D city views, and detailed satellite imagery. It is integrated across Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

Digital Forensics Values of Apple Maps

Being able to extract places saved by a user, their guided routes, and their search history can provide a valuable source of information for digital investigators. This extracted information enables investigators to reconstruct timelines and develop a clearer understanding of a user’s movements. It can also be used to help prove the user’s presence at a specific location at a particular point in time.
